One of the things I love most about the homesteading mindset, is being able to solve problems or take care of things on my own. If I no longer had access to modern medicine could I take care of my family? Luckily, I will always have my husband Eric who is an RN, but it brings us such peace of mind to have some knowledge in essential oils, herbs, etc. Aren’t plants and herbs where medicine all began?
I am no pro by any means, I’m learning right a long with you all, but I have found that there are a lot of aliments I can take care of with my oils! I even clean with them!
I found the company Butterfly Express about 7 years ago. I was a brand new mom wanting to learn about using oils but not wanting to spend a fortune! I have used their products ever since! They are affordable, high quality, and have soooo many options including single oils and blends! I learned so much from just their website alone however, I do HIGHLY recommend their book, Butterfly Miracles with essential oils.
Here are my top 10 favorite oils and why!
- My hands down very most favorite oil is LeBreezy. We use this one all fall and winter long! I diffuse it, I use it in place of Vicks, a drop in the tub or on a washcloth at the bottom of my shower. It is so great for all things respiratory.
- LePaine used in combination with LeDeeper is great for muscle soreness. I carry all my stress in my shoulders which often causes my nerves to pinch in my neck/shoulder area. I rub the LePaine at night and then add a layer of LeDeeper over top (it pushes the oils “deeper”) and seriously by morning I’m so much better!
- Tea Tree oil is a must if you get cold sores! My poor Hubby gets them all the time. He loves to put the tea tree oil on a q-tip and rub it right on the cold sore. It stops the cold sore from progressing so the sooner you get it on the better.
- Lavender oil can be used for EVERYTHING! I love using it for burns, in my laundry, diffuser, and I like to mix it in a roller bottle with coconut oil and tea tree for a quick mosquito bite relief stick.
- Le EZ Traveler saved us during our summer road trips this year. My little 5 year old gets so car sick. We keep a little roller bottle of this one in his carseat cup holder and he puts it on his wrists, behind his ears, or even just smells it when he starts feeling yucky. It has helped him so much!
- LeTranquility has been a lifesaver for me. I really struggle with anxiety. Even just the smell of this oil can help me relax. It is wonderful in the bath tub or diffused.
- LeDeliverance is my favorite to put in my cleaning products and hand soaps as well as to diffuse. It’s a great disinfectant. Check out this awesome DIY hand soap recipe!
- LeHousewarming smells AMAZING! I love to diffuse this one in my kitchen. It just makes my house smell so cozy and comforting.
- Peppermint oil is a favorite for reducing fevers in my kids, as well as headaches for me. If I put it on the back of my neck it usually helps kick those pesky headaches. I like to put this one in my cleaning products too. It has so many uses!
- Last but not least, LeWarmdown. When ever my boys get growing pains in their legs, they know to come to mom for this oil and a leg massage! I also used this one a lot in my pregnancies for leg cramps.
The best part is… none of these oils listed are over $20! Totally worth giving it a try! While I truly believe in the power of modern medicine it is nice to know we can take care of ourselves too. Check out Butterfly Express Oils for yourself, you wont be disappointed!
