Isn’t it nice to find simple things we use in our homes every day and make them ourselves? I have been making my own hand soap for a looong time now and I love not having to buy it!
My sweet Father-in-law used to always refill their hand soap in their home with the same orange Palmolive dish soap. Even up at our little cottage in Idaho the soap dispensers still have the remnants of the tried and true soap, and a cupboard full for future refills.
I may never be able to use my homemade recipe up there, because even the smell of that soap helps keep him alive in our memories (sounds silly but it’s true!), but we do use this one at home and it’s been such an easy way to replace one more thing that I can do on my own.
With only 3 simple ingredients (you probably even have at home) you can always have some on hand. When hand soap couldn’t be found in the stores, I didn’t worry! I had it covered, and we use A LOT of hand soap ’round here.
With my husband being a nurse, and me being a germaphobe, we are constantly washing and making our kids do the same. As much as we all wash, our hands would often dry out with the store bought soap. The homemade is much more gentle on our skin while still very effective.
Here is what you need:
- Castile Soap (I like this Dr. Bronner’s one)
- Essential Oil of choice (LOVE Butterfly Express!)
- Water
- An old soap bottle or jar. I got these super cute pumps on Amazon to put on my 1/2 pint mason jars!
Instructions:
- Pour about 1/8 cup of castile soap into bottle of choice
- Add 3-5 Drops of essential oil (depending on the strength/smell of the oil you choose)
- Fill the rest of your container with water, stir or put the lid on and shake.
VOLIA! There you have it! Super easy! I also love that I can change up the smells as often as I want to! I love adding essential oils in this soap to suit my mood! I like to use lavender, mint, lemon, or some of my favorite Butterfly Express blends like; Holiday Spirit, Deliverance, Tranquility, and Baby Me. The possibilities are endless.
You can also buy scented castile soap if you choose to. I like to get the unscented, but I have used peppermint and lavender in the past and like those as well.
If you want to just use old soap bottles that works fine too. I prefer the foam soap pumps but you could use regular too, just be prepared for the soap to be a little runny.
I would love to hear what your favorite oil combinations are to use in soaps! Who doesn’t love a great smelling soap!?
